The Ministry of Railways (MoR) has recently decided to open up its passenger train operations for private sector participation. This is a first of its kind initiative by the Indian Railways which will help usher in a new era of rail travel in the country. Spanning over 109 routes across the country with introduction of 151 trains, the project is expected to bring in a paradigm shift in passenger travel experience- from cutting-edge, modern technology rolling stock facilitating shorter times to the best-in-class service standards. The project is expected to bring in private investment of about USD 4 billion.

  1. The Request for Qualifications (RFQs) for the project have been issued. And, the same are available for download at:https://eprocure.gov.in/eprocure/app, captioned as “Passenger Train Operations”, as 12 cluster projects. The Application due date under the RFQs is 08 September 2020. A pre-application conference to address queries of prospective bidders is scheduled for August 12, 2020 (through video conferencing).
