Commerce & Industry Minister Mr. Kamal Nath's visit to Washington, DC

The Commerce & Industry Minister of India, Mr. Kamal Nath, visited Washington, DC from June 27 to 28, 2007.

The Minister gave a special address at the ‘Global India Summit’ organized by the US-India Business Council to mark its 32nd Anniversary. The theme of the session he addressed was ‘Listening to one another – The importance of a deeper trade relationship’. On the margins of the USIBC meeting, the Minister had a brief meeting with the US Secretary of State, Dr. Condoleezza Rice.

The Minister had three meetings with the US Trade Representative, Susan Schwab, including over a dinner hosted by Ambassador Ronen Sen for a select group of seven invitees, including US Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez. The Minister also met the US Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Johannes, and the US Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson. Ambassador also hosted a luncheon meeting for Mr. Kamal Nath and former USTR and World Bank President-designate, Robert Zoellick.

The Minister spoke at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on “The Doha Agenda - Delivering on Development”. The 250-strong audience included members of Government, think tanks, the diplomatic community and the media.
