T. P. Sreenivasan appointed Ambassador to Austria

Mr. T.P. Sreenivasan, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India, Washington has been appointed as Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the UN offices in Vienna, it was officially announced in New Delhi today.

The present appointment will take Mr. Sreenivasan back to multilateral diplomacy in which he has specialized since 1980. He has represented India at several UN bodies during his assignments to New York and Nairobi. The UN bodies headquartered in Vienna include the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), THE United Nations Drug Control Program (UNDCP) and the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (OOSA).

From Vienna, Mr. Sreenivasan will be concurrently accredited as Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia.

Mr. Sreenivasan is expected to take up his new assignment in November 2000 at the end of a highly successful tenure as Deputy Chief of Mission, Washington during which there was remarkable improvement in Indo-US relations.

Mr. Sreenivasan was recently promoted for appointment to the highest grade (Grade I) in the Indian Foreign Service.
