In the context of reports appearing in the Pakistani press regarding the intention of the so called Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front to cross the Line of Control in the State of Jammu and Kashmir on October 4, 1999, the Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs this afternoon.

The Deputy High Commissioner was asked, in the context of these reports, to convey to the Government their clear obligation for ensuring the inviolability and sanctity of the Line of Control, which is crucial for the maintenance of tranquility and security. He was also informed that India expects Pakistan to prevent any intended crossing of the Line of Control or the International Border in the State of Jammu and Kashmir and that Pakistan would be responsible for any consequences which may result from its failure to do so.
