Some press reports have appeared in regard to recent US legislation on sanctions on India and Pakistan, which attribute certain remarks and observations to Indian officials.

Government of India have expressed their views on certain aspects of the enabling legislation providing for possible resumption of military supplies to Pakistan. Indian officials have only elaborated on and clarified the Government of India's stand in this respect.

The Government of India and the Embassy of India have always held the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans in the highest regard and attach great importance to relations with the members of the Caucus. Reports that cast aspersions on this relationship are, therefore, misleading and without basis. Specifically, it is clarified that Indian Embassy officials have not made the kinds of remarks and statements that have been attributed to them on this matter.
