The Chief Election Commissioner of India, Mr. V.S. Sampath, visited Washington DC from 12th December, 2013. During his visit, the Chief Election Commissioner delivered the Keynote Address at a discussion on the 2013 Indian State Elections and 2014 Indian Parliamentary Elections. Mr. Sampath was joined in the discussion by Strobe Talbott, Brookings President, Ron Somers, U.S.-India Business Council and Sandhya Satwadi of the North America division of the Confederation of Indian Industry. On 16th December, 2013, the Chief Election Commissioner also held discussions with the members of Indian community regarding ways to facilitate participation of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in the Indian electoral process.
