Press Release - India and the United States signed MOU on Antitrust Cooperation

On September 27, 2012 the United States and India signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Antitrust Cooperation aimed at facilitating greater cooperation between the U.S. and Indian competition authorities.

The Chairperson Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Jon Leibowitz and the United States Department of Justice Acting Assistant Attorney General, Joseph Wayland from the US side and the Chairman Competition Commission of India Ashok Chawla, and the Ambassador of India Mrs. Nirupama Rao, for the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (Government of India), signed this Memorandum of Understanding in Washington DC. The signing took place in the presence of senior officers from the US Department of State, the US Federal Trade Commission, US Department of Justice and the Embassy of India.

The agreement would facilitate enhanced cooperation for effective enforcement of competition laws, through technical cooperation activities, and sharing of information related to competition policy and enforcement developments directed at supporting efficient operation of markets and economic welfare of the citizens.
