PRESS RELEASE - Ambassador Nirupama Rao visits Cincinnati, Ohio

Ambassador Nirupama Rao visited Cincinnati, Ohio from July 11-14, 2012. 

Ambassador Rao met with Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory to discuss and explore ways to deepen bilateral cooperation, building upon the sister city agreement between Mysore and Cincinnati. Ambassador Rao invited Mayor Mallory to visit India. The Mayor expressed keen interest in visiting India and agreed that there is much potential in the strengthening of collaboration with India. The Cincinnati Mayor hosted Ambassador Rao at a dinner marking the signing of the sister city agreement by Cincinnati with Mysore.  Mr. A.H. Vishwanath, Member of Parliament, led the delegation from Mysore for the signing event.

Ambassador Rao briefly attended the World Choir Games 2012, a choir competition attracting choir ensembles from around the world. The Shillong Chamber Choir, Akshayam Choir and Bombay Cambridge School Choir represented India.

Ambassador Rao also met with University of Cincinnati President Gregory Williams to discuss opportunities for collaboration in higher education between United States and India. Ambassador addressed a large audience of faculty, students and staff at the University of Cincinnati on expanding India-US strategic partnership and its future trajectory.

On July 12, 2012, Ambassador toured the facility of Tata Consultancy Services in Cincinnati and interacted with the management and staff to learn about their activities and their contribution and engagement with the Cincinnati community. 

As the chief guest at a gala organized by the India-Cincinnati Sister City Association and the Indian-American Chamber of Commerce, Ambassador Rao thanked Dr. Ratee Apana, President of the Association for her work in spearheading the signing of the agreement. Ambassador highlighted the importance of such agreements in furthering of India-US relations. Congressman Steve Chabot who was present thanked Ambassador Rao for her presence at the gala, noting that he looked forward to further strengthening of the India-US relationship.
